"And as mankind relies more and more on the software that controls the computers that in turn guide the society, it becomes crucial that people control absolutely the programs and the processes by which they are produced, throughout the useful life of the program. To achieve this requires insight, theory, models, methodologies, techniques, tools: a discipline. That is what software engineering is all about."
